Happily Ever After at Kilkea Castle - a dream getaway wedding

Kilkea Castle in County Kildare is steeped in 700 years of irish history, and provides a unique and romantic backdrop for couples looking to tie the knot. It’s a wonderful choice for couples eloping to Ireland – the castle’s elegant architecture, ancient stone walls, and picturesque surroundings offer a sense of timelessness and grandeur that is hard to find elsewhere.

We were delighted to capture Kentucky couple Kaity and James’ winter wedding here last December. About 60 guests attended the celebration, the majority of whom travelled in from the states and we couldn’t really have asked for more of the weather at this time of year – a windy day but plenty of light and some wonderful irish castle wedding photography from Elaine Barker we have included here.

Wedding Ceremonies at Kilkea Castle

Indoor ceremonies take place in the 2nd floor Drawing Room or Baronial Hall for larger gatherings. In good weather the outdoor ceremony spaces are spectacular – choose from the Rose Garden and or on the main Lawn, both within the confines of the Castle walls. Kaity and James enjoyed a gorgeous spiritual ceremony in the Drawing Room, beautifully decorated and finished by Sharon from Frog Prince.

Wedding celebrations at Kilkea Castle

Kilkea Castle exhibits impressive versatility, as it is capable of accommodating both intimate weddings and elopements, as well as larger events with equal distinction.

The Castle itself hosts the main drinks reception which will also spill out onto the lawn when the weather is pleasant. After the dinner bell is rung guests make the short walk down the avenue to Baronial Hall where larger celebration meals are held underneath chandeliers and amidst ornate decor. It’s a grand and luxurious space with an atmosphere befitting the regal setting. Kilkea Castle provide silver Candelabras and Chiavari chairs with each setting. You’ll make full use of the bar extension

Restaurant 1180 is a good choice for smaller celebration meals, catering for up to 60 guests. It overlooks the Rose Garden and the 18th hole on the golf course. As you would expect, the food here is fantastic – there are plenty of sample of menus on the Kilkea Castle website to give you an idea of what you might expect on your wedding day.
