Wedding celebrations to remember at Tinakilly House

Located in Rathnew, before you enter Wicklow town from the Dublin side, Tinakilly Country House is a restored four star boutique hotel and popular wedding venue within a very short drive from Dublin.

I have filmed here many times but it was only recently that I learnt where Tinakilly gets its name from – ‘Ti na Coille’ or ‘House of the woods’, which is a gorgeous and apt description. I take a Pilates class on the grounds and am always pleasantly reminded of the charm of the place when I drive up the tree-lined avenue.

As you approach the hotel, you’re carried up the picturesque avenue lined with towering oak trees (how good does it look in the sunshine with smiling bride and groom Vicky and Rory whizzing down it in their vintage car!). The views from the hotel are gorgeous – you don’t quite realise how close you are to the sea you are here until you witness the views in person, while to the west you’re greeted by the Wicklow mountains, visible from the House and gardens in the distance.

The gardens at Tinakilly provide a convenient backdrop for your wedding photos, with plenty of opportunities for beautiful photography. The tranquil surroundings with views of the irish sea, make it an idyllic location for your special day, and an equally ideal location for filming.

The lawn terraces and woodland walks offer a variety of settings for your photos, meaning you really won’t need to leave the estate to capture gorgeous wedding photography.

Ceremony options at Tinakilly House

On their day Vicky and Rory held a gorgeous church ceremony at the Kilternan parish church. Kilternan’s ‘Little Blue Church’ close by is another popular church with couples holding their wedding reception at Tinakilly House, it’s a gorgeously, quaint little church nearby in Kilternan village and a great choice for couples who desire a more traditional service. Elsewhere there are churches nearby in Wicklow town, Ashford, Kilquade and Enniskerry.

For Wedding Ceremonies on site there are a number of options – Tinakilly are full licensed to hold civil ceremonies both inside and on the estate. Situated on the eastern side of the house, The Halpin Suite is a good option for your wedding ceremony. This space is big enough to accommodate most drink receptions, civil ceremonies for up to 100 guests, and dining for smaller gatherings. It’s a gorgeous light-filled room, featuring parque floors, high ceilings and expansive bay windows.

The Brunel Suite, is an alternative option for civil ceremonies of up to 160 guests. It’s a more spacious room with picturesque views of the gardens. The room also doubles ups as the location for your breakfast for you and your guests the following morning.

You can also hold your Ceremony in the grounds of Tinakilly House – in the summertime the gardens offer a variety of locations to choose from and the staff here will assist you choosing your ideal location.

Reception spaces at Tinakilly House

The Great Eastern Pavilion comfortably hosts up to 300 guests, making it the ideal setting for grand weddings and events. In addition to the impressive main area, there is an on-site bar and ahandy lounge space furnished with couches and games. This cozy spot, perfect for a little relaxation, can also be used to set up a photo booth, display your guest book, and showcase your wedding cake.

Elsewhere The Asgard Suite and The Mizen Room will handle smaller intimate dinners and cocktail parties – up to 35 and 20 guests respectively.

Accommodation at Tinakilly House

Tinakilly House’s proximity to Dublin is a huge plus when considering the needs of your guests, and yet at the same time it can feel like a whole other world away from the city. Guests who opt to stay can make use of one of 52 bedrooms, which is generally sufficient for most wedding sizes these days while Wicklow town is a 5 minute drive away with further hotel and B&B options there also.

On the day we were delighted to work with Gareth from Lima Conlon Photography, Gareth is always great to work with, a lovely guy and mega talented – a previous IPPVA Wedding Photographer of the Year! Thank you Gareth.

We are absolutely blown away! We’ve spent the whole weekend watching the videos on repeat. From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU! We feel like we’ve relived the whole day again - it’s been unbelievably special to watch the footage back. You captured every moment so perfectly - you are pure magic!
- Vicky and Rory
