Doing it in style - a Wicklow wedding at Killruddery House

If you haven’t visited Killruddery House you really must. Just off the M11 in north Co. Wicklow it’s a magical old-worldly spot, perfect for a Sunday afternoon days out. Family passes give you unlimited access to all the gardens and special events throughout the year – and there is much to see and do, from the walled garden and lawns to the Tearooms and picnic and play areas. It’s really set up perfectly for families and one of our favourite summertime spots – no dogs are allowed in the grounds which is a blessing every parent with young kids will understand!

Wedding ceremonies at Killruddery House

When it comes to filming a wedding at Killruddery, its a dream spot for us. Aside from being so close to Dublin, there are an assortment of varied spots on the estate to get beautiful shots, while The Orangery, Dining Room, the Library and their newly renovated Grain Store all provide plenty of space and a definite wow factor for family and friends in attendance.

Wedding ceremonies at Killruddery House are held in The Orangery – a victorian conservatory which can seat up to 180. It’s a breath-taking space, full of light, wonder and history and the real draw when it comes to holding your wedding celebration here.

Alison and Sam held their ceremony here in The Orangery last summer and it was a beautifully solemn and moving humanist affair. Drinks reception afterwards was in the open-air at the back of the house, overlooking the lawn. The Dining Room – attached to The Orangery also offers further space for your drinks reception.

For the couple shoot we are always spoilt for choice at Killruddery, we got beautiful shots of a very happy couple on the hill which overlooks the House and 17th Century gardens.

The Orangery at Killruddery – Simple Tapestry

For the evening time we moved onto the candlelit Grain Store – think cosy rustic converted barn with open brick detail. Beautifully designed table settings greeted guests who are served food from the estate. The Grain Store is always magically decorated and makes use of long ‘feasting tables’ for the main event which brings a refreshing uniqueness to the occasion.

Killruddery produces it’s own beef, lamb and pork, while much of the fruit and vegetables are also grown locally. Food is done properly here, and a revamped culinary team have added popular weekly supper clubs as part of the offering. It’s a proper farm to fork experience, and brings another layer of uniqueness to a wedding celebration held here.

The barn was given a facelift in 2023 and we were lucky enough to attend one of their Christmas supper nights with friends. We all raved about the food non-stop during the meal, while the atmosphere in the barn was incredibly cosy. I don’t know how they managed to achieve this!

A huge thank you to Brideen and Deci at Simple Tapestry for use of their incredible photos from the day at Killruddery, we love working with these guys, make sure you check our their portfolio.

Your wedding day Flowers, picked from the Gardens

Not many venues offer this, and how incredibly special it would be to have your wedding day flowers sourced and picked locally and from the venue itself. Killruddery have their own in-house florists and a seasonal flower menu to guide you through your options. A gorgeous touch.
