Summertime

Cool elegance and a party to remember - a Clonwilliam House wedding

Where to start? A beautiful day which takes us right back to an endless summer? The splendour, style and sheer fabulousness that is Clonwilliam House?

Clonwilliam House never fails to deliver – picture stunning Country House overlooking the vale of Avoca, with superb food and service and you begin to have it. We adore filming here. Owner Miriam Clune and her team look after their guests and visitors so well, we can’t speak highly enough of the place and the welcome we always receive.

Clonwilliam House – what you need to know

Located deep into County Wicklow, this Georgian splendour will charm any and all who come, with its stately historic architecture, classical elegance and breathtaking landscape. Getting here from Dublin is relatively easy, it’s about an hours drive. The House comes fully staffed and equipped to customise every detail to your liking. There are no check in or check out times when you hold your wedding here, this private house is genuinely yours to run your wedding celebration exactly as you had imagined.

A rare but cool feature is the indoor swimming pool, beautifully imagined it’s a tranquil and fun space for a couple and their party to relax and enjoy on the morning of the wedding. Many couples will take the house for two days and it’s a great spot for an extended celebration.

The only snag you might run into is managing to find a weekend it is free – the family only allow a small number of weddings each year, so you can imagine how in demand a place like this is.

Wedding Ceremonies overlooking the Vale of Avoca

Clonwilliam House is a venue that you will want to make the most of, and if you are holding your wedding in the summer, a Ceremony here that takes advantage of the spectacular outdoor surroundings is incredibly special.

Humanist and spiritual Ceremonies can be held while there are a number of nearby churches in Co. Wicklow to choose from if you opt for something more traditional. St Mary & St Patrick Church in Avoca is a beautiful old church, while St. Mary’s and St. Michael’s in nearby Rathdrum village is a larger church also convenient to Clonwilliam.

Jessica and David held their gorgeous Ceremony outside in the courtyard to the side of the main house at Clonwilliam. Couples can also hold their wedding ceremony to the front of the house overlooking that famous view – both are wonderful options on a warm spring afternoon and in the summertime.

We have also witnessed beautiful outdoor October ceremonies at Clonwilliam, the autumn colours of Wicklow and beyond providing a magical backdrop to the proceedings.

The house has the reassuring advantage of having an indoor alternative in one of the larger reception rooms if the weather doesn’t cooperate.

Flower arrangements for weddings in the house are personally tended to by Miriam, courtesy of Fussy Peacock. The flowers are the first thing we always notice when we walk through the main front door on the morning of a wedding – the House is always spectacularly dressed for the occasion.

Wedding receptions at Clonwilliam House

After the Ceremony, guests are welcomed with refreshments and sparkling champagne in the main reception room and to the front of the House on the terrace overlooking the incredible views of the valley below before. It’s a glorious setting on a sunny day, and one your wedding party will not want to leave!

The wedding celebration meal is held in either the Dining Room in the main house for smaller gatherings or the Barn and Stables next door, for larger weddings.  Clonwilliam has no minimum numbers and can seat up to 200 guests for dinner, so grand or intimate it’s a great choice.

The set up at the barn is truly spectacular, especially at night-time when it is all lit up and comes to life, with striking real trees, thousands of fairy lights and a party vibe few other venues in the country come close to.

Yourself and your guests can expect to be extremely well taken care of with menus by local chef Naomi from Naomi’s Kitchen. We have got to know Naomi well (she has made me my veggie nut roast the last few Christmas’s!) – she always has an incredibly professional team running the kitchen and the food is genuinely to die for.

Jessica and David’s crowd were well up for dancing after dinner and the atmosphere was pure magic – we can only guess that celebrations continued long into the night! Every wedding we film here seems to always end on an absolute high and a belter of a party, it would definitely be near the top of our list if we were compiling a ‘best party venue’ listing.

Accommodation at Clonwilliam House

The main house at Clonwilliam can accommodate up to 14 people but there are lots of nearby options for additional accommodation and the team at Clonwilliam personally ensure that each of your guests is transported safely back to the accommodation no matter the time.

Many thanks to Jessica and David for allowing us to share their wonderful day.
